Dear Friends,
I have been working on a project
dear to my heart.
I took one of Steve's
woodworking counters
and repurposed it into a
new farmhouse dining table.
He had the base built
and had a big solid door for the top.
First I removed the door
and then I removed the legs and cut
them down from counter to table height.
I added three center supports
(these supports were not needed with the door)
and I purchased pine 1X8's
and build a new top for it.
I was so happy,
I got the legs cut and back on
and everything was level and nice.
Then I watched a few You Tube videos
before building my table top.
In the first video the man said
he cut his legs 30 inches long.
Oh, no I cut mine 27 inches.
So I remeasured the height of my old table.
It was 29 inches . . .
Somewhere between the house and the shop
I changed the measurements by 2 inches.
I felt so stupid . . .
measure twice cut once.
What could I do?
I spent some time brain storming
and found replacement sofa legs
on amazon.
They saved my bacon!
Building the top.
I attached it by counter sinking
screws and then filling them
in with wood putty.
Sometimes, I can't believe how much I learned
by helping Steve with his projects.
This photo is after applying the stain.
Then I applied 10 or 11 coats
of Tung Oil (sanding in-between 2 coats)
for my final finish.
This photo is after about 5 or 6 coats.
I also found two more chairs at
a second hand store.
And painted then 2 different
shades of blue.
And $10 for this one.
I love this project because it
felt very much like Steve and I were
working on it together :)
Thank you so much for following
along with me . . .
I have met so many lovely people
through blogging.
God bless you all.
Your blogging sister,
Connie
