Houston Rockets guard James Harden said he was unaware of any message attached to the "Blue Patriot" mask he wore on Thursday and was not trying to make a political statement.
The Houston Rockets posted a photo of the star guard wearing a mask that appeared to show Thin Blue Line and Punisher skull images, both of which have been used by Blue Lives Matter protesters.

Harden addressed the mask on Friday, and he didn’t realize what the imagery was associated with. The reason he wore it? He liked the look of it and it covered his giant beard:
Harden finished his comments on the mask controversy by making a clear statement regarding his personal beliefs and his support for the growing U.S. racial justice movement.
“It’s pretty simple,” Harden said Friday. “As I clearly talked about yesterday, me finding a way — whether it’s my jersey name, or another way, to show my support for Black Lives Matter.”
“Honestly, in every profession, there are people that honestly do their job at a high level,” Harden continued. “And then there’s BS people, in every profession. That was it. I wasn’t there to make a political statement.”
